1.Plastic Injection Molding Characteristics of Intraocular Lens Injectors

Precision Micro-Molding: Injector components, such as plungers and cartridge systems, are typically very small and require extremely high injection molding precision to maintain dimensional tolerances at the micron level.

Medical-Grade Materials: Commonly used materials include polypropylene (PP), polycarbonate (PC), polysulfone (PSU), and polyether ether ketone (PEEK).

Production Environment: Production and packaging must be carried out in an ISO 13485-certified cleanroom environment to ensure sterility.

Mold Precision: High-precision molds must address issues such as burrs and dimensional deviation to ensure smoothness and sealing performance during implantation.

2.Key Technologies and Challenges

Small-Incision Technology: Modern intraocular lens cartridge openings can be reduced to 2.2 mm or even smaller, significantly minimizing the surgical incision.

Lubrication and Lubricant Application: Since intraocular lenses are usually made of soft materials, the injector interior often requires special lubrication treatment or the addition of lipid-based lubricants to reduce friction and prevent pulling on eye tissue.

Thinness and Lubricity Control: Injection molding technology must ensure that the injector tip is thin and smooth while maintaining the structural strength of the plastic.
